Mr.Z said that the test will be on learning area 1 and 2. If we do not complete all of our assignments, we will not be having the exam but finish it during our exam.
Mrs Nobuko from Japan sent some delicious food and pictures of anime which was drawn amazingly. Then we took pictures with the food and the pictures and Mr.Z sent it to Mrs Nobuko.

Mr.Z said that we will have to do portfolio for learning area 2. The first page of the portfolio is the topic. The second page is to explain open source software and give a few examples. 3rd page is to explain application software and give a few examples. 4th page is about the ICT hardware - using the pamphlet that we got from the PC-Fair. 5th page is about software like Kapersky 2012,Panda 2012. 6th page is explaining pervasive computing and give 3 examples. And as for the last page will be the acknowledgement/bibliography.

We did a little housekeeping before starting the lesson. Mr.Z said that we have to start sharing links on nicenet, update our ICT contribution and stay back for PC assembling. Session 17
We learn about hardware today. The motherboard is the main circuit board of the system unit. Expansion cards are for graphic, audio. The ports points out which peripheral attaches to the system unit so it can send or receive data.
Central Processing Unit also known as CPU interprets and carries out the basic instruction that operates a computer. It impacts the overall computing power and manages the computer's operation. There are two subcomponents of the CPU. a) Control Unit (CU) - extracts instruction from the memory and decodes and executes them. b) Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) - perform all arithmetic (mathematical calculations) and logical calculations (Boolean result-AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR, equivalence).

Session 16
Did abit of housekeeping first before continuing our lesson on computer system. Today we learn the binary code that has only two digits : 0 or 1. A bit is represented by the number 0 and 1.
We also learn data measurement. For example 1KB=2 power 10 bytes, and few more others. As for speed measurement, are like Hertz (Hz), MegaHertz (MHz), and GigaHertz (GHz).
The system clock is one of the major factor that influenced the computer speed and only affects the CPU only. Example of a microprocessor speed, Pentium 4 running at 2.4 GHz which is faster and Pentium 4 running at 1.8 GHz which is slower.
Speed and path determines the total processing speed.

Started the class with a bit of housekeeping like finalizing the marks. Mr.Z said that we have to do module 1 and print it out as a hard-copy during the holidays. After that, he also talk about the project ColMas which we will have to post 20 different pictures of the school. At the last 20 minutes or so, we had another test about ICT.

Session 13
Mr.Z didn't come but the class still went on as usual. We had to present our presentation about phishing, virus(Trojan horse and Salami attack), hacking and security measures (biometric devices and authentication).
Phishing - a way of attempting to acquire information such as usernames, passwords and credit cards details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.
Virus: (i)Trojan horse - a malicious program that does not attempt to infect file but can make copies of themselves. , steal information or harm their host computer systems.
(ii)Salami attack - a programmed attack which is implemented in small (unnoticeable) increments.
Hacking - is a person (hacker) with advanced knowledge of operating systems and programming language. They might find discover holes with the systems and freely share the information they've discovered but never intentionally damaged data.
Security measures: (i)biometrics devices - a form of identification and access control. It is also used to identify individuals in groups that are under surveillance.
(ii)authentication - is a process of determining whether someone or something is, in fact, who or what they declare to be.

Session 11
Did some housekeeping on our ICT blog at the beginning of the class. Then Mr.Z gave us a assignment to do which is a short presentation on 4 different topics which are phishing, virus (Trojan Horse and Salami Attack), hacking and security measure (biometrics and authentication). My presentation will be on security measures. After that, we were given a short test on the definition of ICT and the differences between hackers and crackers.Mr.Z also said that the 2nd test will be given next Tuesday.

Session 10
We met with a Japanese teacher, Mrs Nobuko through Skype. Only four students had a chance to talk to her and I was one of them. The first student was Kieron, who had only joined us for a couple of weeks. The second student was Mahsuri and the third student was Jeevan. The last student was me. We talk a bit of Japanese cultures and the Malaysian cultures. It was a pleasant experience. Mr.Z said that we will be doing this again in the future with other teacher from all around the world. For example Sri Lanka, Russia and others.

Session 09
Mr.Z started our lesson with controversial contents which are information that causes disagreement in opinions and may cause the disruption of peace. Examples of controversial contents are pornography and slander. Pornography are any form of media or material that depicts erotic behavior and cause sexual excitement. Pedophiles are people who are sexually aroused by naked pictures of innocent children. Where as slandering is a legal term of false and malicious statements about someone.
The impact of pornography are: i) criminal acts ii) sexual addictions or perversion iii) develop low moral
values iv) erode good religious, cultural and social belief and behavior.
As for the impact on slandering: i) develop into a society that disregards the truth and honesty ii) bad habits of spreading facts that are unreal iii) leads to unnecessary arguments iv) cause people to have negative attitudes toward another person

Started session 08 with a video about password. In the video we mustn't share password with anyone and if someone knows about it, we must change it. Our password must at least be 8 characters and contains upper and lower cases as well as numbers. We mustn't use the same password on every site and NEVER use dictionary words. Last but not least change the password as often as possible.
After that, we continue our lesson with Computer Security. It means protecting our computer system and the information inside it. Hackers, crackers and script kiddie can hack into our computer system and take the information they want. There are 3 types of security: a) hardware security b) software/data security c) network security. Then we learned about threats that can be made to a computer. Malicious codes like virus, Trojan horse, logic bomb, trapdoor and backdoor, worm and others. Other than malicious codes, natural and environmental surroundings can also cause threat to the computer. For example, flood, tornado, excessive heat and more.
Lastly we learned about security measures that can be taken to protect the computer system. Right before we enter class, Mr.Z checked our lesson outcomes 01 and after that, he told us there will be replacement class on Sunday, 12/2/2012 at 10 a.m. Then we started our lesson with the meaning of computer ethics and cyber laws.
Ethics -> a moral philosophy where a person makes a specific moral choice and sticks to it and computer Law -> a legal system comprising of rules. Under this ethics and law, we must respect the ownership, privacy and property. Other than that, IP or Intellectual Property are works created by inventors, authors and artist.

We started our lesson on the usage of ICT in everyday life. By doing that, Mr.Z showed us videos. He also showed us videos of the difference between computerised and non-computerised systems as well as videos on the impact of ICT on society. When Mr.Z showed us videos of the impact of ICT on society, I learn the advantages and disadvantages of ICT.

Session 05
Today's session 05. Mr.Z started to teach us according to the syllabus. He showed us videos of what ICT is about. This is what I learn from the video:
1) Information - knowledge obtained through researching, investigation, reading, studying. Helps us to fulfill our daily tasks.
2) Communication - an act of transmitting messages.
3) Technology - vital in communition, spreading information. It is also a type of tool in communication.
I also learn that the word computer comes from the word compute which means counting. After that, Mr.Z showed us more videos about the first generation of computer to the present computers. Lastly, right before the class ended, he told us that we will collabrate with Columbian students who is younger than us and Australian students.

Session 04
Mr.Z talk to us about conferencing on Yahoo Messenger and Skype. Then we have to join the ICT Facebook group which we have to write something about ourselves. After that, Mr.Z asked us to learn more about our group members. I found out where they live, their email, contact number, their blog address as well as what they're good at. Mr.Z also asked us to volunteer to be the class monitor and assistant monitor. Hafizah, Hazim and myself was suggested by my classmates and I ended up with the most votes(I think) and became the class monitor. As for Hazim, he became the assistant monitor. Mr.Z then showed us our class tagline which is "Let's connect, contact, communicate and collaborate."

Session 03
For today's session, we received an updated version of the scheme of work. Then Mr.Z talk to us about our blog and he was quite happy with it. Right after that Mr.Z told us to download lesson plan and lesson outcomes which he has sent the download link to our emails. He then further explain to us about what we are going to do with the lesson plan and and the lesson outcomes. He also gave us assignments which we have to print out lesson plan 01 by 30th of January (after the Chinese New Year). Later on, he showed us and example of last year's ICT student's folder which we will get this Thursday. He also asked two students to volunteer to be teacher's assistant in managing www.nicenet.org . My fellow friends, Melissa and Felicia, volunteered to be Mr.Z's assistant. Right before the class ended, Mr.Z separate us into 5 groups containing 4 members each. Mine is the 3rd group with Nurul Hafizah, Lee Jia Shing (the group leader) and Muhd Hazim. Mr.Z also gave us a 1Malaysia badge and further told us that we are all ICT brigade. We will be in charged of the computer lab during the afternoon session.

Session 02
After we greeted Mr.Z, Mr.Z gave us a short briefing on the 'scheme of work' and the syllabus that we had printed before. Then we stick the ICT index paper and other papers into our notebook. After that, Mr.Z gave us assignments to do before Session 03. The assignments was replying to three or more welcoming messages and print one of the welcoming message and stick into the notebook. Right before the class ended, we got Mr.Z's contact just in case we need help and he showed us an example of an ICT blog which brings me into writing in my very own ICT blog.
