Mr.Z did not come today so we continued doing our PC-Assembling in Pusat Akses.

Session 23

Mr.Z said that we will have to do portfolio for learning area 2. The first page of the portfolio is the topic. The second page is to explain open source software and give a few examples. 3rd page is to explain application software and give a few examples. 4th page is about the ICT hardware - using the pamphlet that we got from the PC-Fair. 5th page is about software like Kapersky 2012,Panda 2012. 6th page is explaining pervasive computing and give 3 examples. And as for the last page will be the acknowledgement/bibliography.

Mr.Z did not come today so we continued doing our PC-Assembling in Pusat Akses.

Session 21

We did a little housekeeping before starting the lesson. Mr.Z said that we have to start sharing links on nicenet, update our ICT contribution and stay back for PC assembling. We also have to complete our bytz index and also update our blog. Mr.Z also commented on our notes skills saying that we have to improve it.

My PC-assembling group is with Melissa (leader), Felicia, Hafizah, Thamilarasi, Chen Xing Ren, Ezad and myself.

Session 20

Mr.Z said that there will be a portfolio on lesson area 02 about the difference between the past computer generation and the current computer generation. To do this, we will need to go the PC Fair to collect the pamplet.
The lesson today is about pre-PC assembling. The safety precaution and the steps to assemble a PC.

Session 19

Did a short quiz on application software before starting our lesson.
There are 8 types of utility program:
1) file manager                          5) data recovery
2) diagnostic utility                    6) virus protection
3) disk defragmenter                 7) data compression
4) backup utility                        8) disk scanner and disk clean-up

Session 18

Did a quiz before entering class. Then we continued our lesson on computer systems. Today we learn about software, a program which consists of a set of instruction that tells a computer how to perform a specific operations. There are two types of software: i) system software  ii) application software

The function of operating system : i) start a computer  ii) providing user interface  iii) manage data and programs  iv) manage memory  v) configuring devices

Session 17

We learn about hardware today. The motherboard is the main circuit board of the system unit. Expansion cards are for graphic, audio. The ports points out which peripheral attaches to the system unit so it can send or receive data.

Central Processing Unit also known as CPU interprets and carries out the basic instruction that operates a computer. It impacts the overall computing power and manages the computer's operation. There are two subcomponents of the CPU. a) Control Unit (CU) - extracts instruction from the memory and decodes and executes them. b) Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) - perform all arithmetic (mathematical calculations) and logical calculations (Boolean result-AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR, equivalence).
